The Deception Society Journey
Im Tom, the founder and experience designer at Deception Society Games.
Some of the best evenings are never planned. Those are the nights when friends gather around a table, conversations become stories, laughter fills the room, and everyone leaves talking about what happened for weeks afterwards.
That’s the experience I set out to create.
Deception Society Games was born from a simple question:
Why couldn’t a murder mystery game feel as immersive as an escape room, as atmospheric as immersive theatre, and as welcoming as a beautifully hosted dinner party?

For years, the answer didn’t seem to exist.
Traditional murder mystery games often ask players to spend the evening reading lengthy scripts, waiting for their turn to speak, or simply acting out a character with little influence over what actually happens. Once the novelty of dressing up wears off, many players become spectators rather than participants.
But I believed there was a better way.
Three Careers. One Vision.
The idea behind Deception Society Games comes from more than thirty years spent creating experiences for people.
For over twenty years, I worked as a chef and hospitality manager, learning that unforgettable evenings are never created by chance. Every detail matters—from the food and atmosphere to the pacing and the way guests interact with one another.
And for the last decade, I have owned and designed escape rooms, building puzzles, stories and game mechanics that challenged thousands of players. Designing immersive experiences taught me how to keep people engaged, encourage collaboration, reward observation, and create moments that guests still talk about long after they’ve left.
Alongside both careers, I’ve spent over thirty years writing stories, earning two degrees in Creative Writing and developing a lifelong fascination with mystery, story-telling, and the art of revealing information at exactly the right moment.
Eventually, those three worlds came together.
Hospitality.
Game design.
Storytelling.
Deception Society Games is the result.
I Didn’t Want To Make Another Murder Mystery
I wanted to redesign the experience from the ground up.
Every game is built around genuine player choice. Information isn’t simply handed to you—it’s uncovered through conversation, deduction and carefully timed strategy. Every decision matters, every player has a reason to stay engaged, and everyone has an opportunity to influence the outcome.
The mystery is only part of the evening.
Each experience is accompanied by a professionally designed themed menu, cocktail pairings, wine recommendations, non-alcoholic alternatives, music suggestions, decorations and hosting guidance, allowing you to create an evening that feels complete rather than simply playing a game between courses.
The goal has never been to publish a box of cards.
The goal is to help you host an unforgettable night.
Designed For Hosts
Hosting can feel daunting.
That’s why every Deception Society Games experience is carefully structured to make hosting easier while making the evening feel effortless for your guests. Whether you’re an experienced entertainer or hosting your first dinner party, everything is designed to help you create a memorable event without months of preparation.
A Deception Society game is cinematic without being theatrical, intelligent without being complicated, and strategic without leaving quieter players behind.
They’re built for groups who love conversation, deduction, clever twists and shared experiences.
More Than A Game
At Deception Society Games, we believe people don’t remember products.
They remember experiences.
The stories they discovered.
The accusations they made.
The clues they missed.
The friendships that survived—and the ones that almost didn’t.
If our games leave people talking long after the table has been cleared, then we’ve achieved exactly what we set out to do.
Welcome to Deception Society Games.
Your guests are about to become suspects.
